The Content Grid for Developers
Skip Links
The Content Grid is a private virtual world created using the OpenSim platform. It allows individual schools to have the ability to run their own internet based virtual world where they can enhance the learning experience for students by adding content, created by approved Developers, securely to their virtual world.
The Content Grid brings everything that was great about Second Life and other virtual worlds securely to Schools, although the content available was restricted to what the school built themselves.
The Content Grid sorts this problem by allowing developers (in Second Life or OpenSim) the ability to transfer a whole island to a Market Place, where Developers can sell or rent or even give away their content to schools. When a school purchases a Developer's island everything is handled automatically and the school gets the content island added to their own private grid. Permissions granted to these islands are entirely up to the Developer, and can be upgraded at any time.
To become a Developer you must take a Content Grid SD Island. This is a private grid setup with one island that will allow you to create content using the default content grid protocols. You will have full permission to this island to terraform, construct and script. Once completed you upload your island onto the content grid market place. Fill out the details and your island will be available for schools to rent within 24 hours.
If you have developed in Second Life it uses the exact same tools. In fact you can import your own content from Second Life directly into your Content Grid SD Island.
The Content Grid is brought to you by Second Places.
