Electricity is a very convenient form of energy that can be generated using different energy resources. Some of these resources are renewable and some are non-renewable. Each resource has advantages and disadvantages. This module demonstrates the methods of producing energy from renewable resources and is intended for GCSE-level students.
The island features models of renewable energy generators. There is a Dam with a hydroelectric station, Wind Farm, Solar Farm and a Tidal Energy Station. These can be switched on or off and the effect of this is represented on the control panel at the home location. There is a power level monitor that raises and lowers to represent the amount of power being generated. Weather is simulated on the island to demonstrate how the different methods of power generation affects the effectiveness of each station and the power output that is possible in different conditions.
Each feature has an info button with additional information and links to the BBC Bytesize website revision notes.
